We are halfway through the PFO year and I wanted to share about the journey so far, what I’ve learned, and how PFO has impacted me. It has been a great year! So far, the buddy program has been going great! My buddy is named Keon and we have so much fun! He loves to talk about anything superhero and play hide and seek. We have had so much fun at the buddy events. Through the Buddy Program, I have learned the true meaning of acceptance, because Keon accepts me for who I am. As soon as we met, we were friends, no questions about who I was or judgements about me, Keon accepted me right off the bat. That is the true meaning of acceptance and I strive to apply that to every person I meet. Two Saturdays ago, we had our last committee meeting. I was the co-chair of the Cookbook Committee this year and it was amazing. My committee was so accountable and supportive, everyone had such a great time working together and the book is looking amazing! I can’t wait for the book to be published, it has been a true pleasure working with my committee to create it, and I can’t wait to show our work to the world. Through committee work, I have learned that no matter how big a task is, with the right group of people and a positive attitude, anything can be accomplished. I learned what it means to be a leader and have created teamwork skills that will continue to serve me throughout my life. We have also had some amazing Lifetalks, which are teen created and led sessions on a variety of topics. My favorite Lifetalk was “The Science of Gratitude”. I learned that employing more gratitude in life can lead to a variety of health benefits, and a exponentially happier life. Speaking of gratitude, I am so grateful for my year so far in PFO and I can’t wait to see what the next part of the year will bring.
