We are halfway through the PFO year and I wanted to share about the journey so far, what I’ve learned, and how PFO has impacted me. As you all know, this year is my fourth year in PFO and it has been the most impactful one to date. Leading not only as a Small Group Leader but also as one of the co-presidents of PFO has really opened my eyes to the amount of work and importance to detail in each and every event. I cannot say this enough, as the PFO staff has been working overtime to make this organization run like a well-oiled machine and I am so grateful for that as it allows every teen to experience such a transformative experience. One of these events being the Lifetalks. As a Small Group Leader this year, I had many opportunities to lead several Lifetalks. Throughout my years in PFO, I had always wanted to a lead a Lifetalk, as I had experienced many life changing ones in the past, such as Ben and McCaela’s “Negative and Positive Thoughts” Lifetalk and Emily and Lillie’s “Car Ride” Lifetalk. My first Lifetalk I was able to lead this year was during the annual retreat. Before the Lifetalk, I was very nervous and had major butterflies in my stomach, however, that all changed when I stepped in front of the 84 smiling faces in front of me. As you probably know from my first blog of the year, the Lifetalk went off without a hitch and I really felt as though many seeds of change were planted that night. Looking back now I am so grateful for the personal transformation that PFO has allowed me to go through. This is because without the safe space that PFO provided me to discover my own self-worth and the strength and courage within me, I truly believe that I would not be the person I am today. I would not have taken a step out of my comfort zone and danced my heart out on stage, I would not have taken a leap of faith and applied for a leadership position in PFO, and I would not be able to be so vulnerable in front of a large group of people. However, PFO has given me these opportunities to succeed and I am happy to say that I have taken these risks and I will continue to take these risks for the rest of my life, as you never know where they will lead you. I have really seen myself grow from a fragile, afraid boy into a stronger, radiant soul. So thank you PFO and thank you Journey Group for continuing this journey with me for the best 4 years of my life.
