Dear Journey Group,

We are halfway through the PFO year and I wanted to share about the journey so far, what I’ve learned, and how PFO has impacted me. This year, I have written and performed a slam poetry piece in honor of Hinds’ Feet Farm, a nonprofit that advocates for victims of traumatic brain injury. I felt inspired to write a poem to spread awareness of such a great cause. I was not expecting the overwhelming positive response I got from everyone at the Connecting Charlotte event. Strangers came up to me and shared experiences similar to my poem. PFO has taught me the power of the arts to connect people in meaningful ways. Another part of PFO I am grateful for is the buddy program. I met my wonderful buddy Zoe at the beginning of this year. We have done many fun things together, from arts and crafts to trick or treating to community service, and I really value our friendship. I hope that we can accomplish more great things in the second half of the year! I am also excited for arts experiences to really kick off in just under a month. Overall, PFO has helped me grow creatively and be a part of acts of kindness for others. I am excited for the next half of a wonderful year.

In gratitude,

Katie Brown
