I was a Playing for Others teen from 2012-2014. I served on the Concert Committee during my first year and on the Teen Executive Committee in my second year. I was in Dance Experience both years and received a chance to play a role of being a part of the “cool kid crew” in the Musical Theatre show “13!” As a PFO teen, I learned how to make a significant difference in my life, how to accept myself for who I am, and discovered my passion for Dance. After I graduated from PFO, I went off to college at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I have completed my first year there and am currently on the pathway of getting a degree in Business Administration. In the summer of 2015, I joined the PFO staff as a co-intern with Ellen Mischinski and started my internship back with the organization that I held close to my heart. I rediscovered past experiences, rekindled old friendships, and learned how the organization was run from backstage. As an alum, I am giving of my time and talent to the new incoming teens and creating the space that was created for me back when I was a part of the organization. Seeing the organization from a staff perspective is rewarding and amazing because I am learning how to create and manage retreats and sessions for the future teens in this organization and being able to give back to the organization that has invested so much of its time in me. I am very grateful for taking on this opportunity. My time with PFO has always been a constant source of happiness and love. Having the opportunity to go into a space that allows me to be who I want to be is very rare to find, and I am so thankful for having another opportunity in being a part of the PFO family. I am making a significant difference in my community, learning to be a philanthropic leader, and becoming a compassionate human being while learning all about the non-profit world! Working with Playing For Others is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for anyone to be exposed to, and I am in an overabundance of gratitude for being a part of its mission.
