PFO is a very special place for many reasons – one of my favorites being its willingness and ability to mix passion, projects and ideas to create inclusive experiences for all of our buddies and teens involved in the organization to take part in. We had the idea over the summer to create a committee that would write a children’s book that would then be turned into Creative Drama Workshops for our buddies and teens to experience together.

Over the course of 33 hours, a group
of 11 PFO teens sat down and wrote a 3 part children’s book all about
acceptance. Through their story –
Adventures in Enchantilandia: Animalando Learns Acceptance – 3 characters learn to love themselves, their differences, and their similarities. After all, we can all find acceptance if we work together to look for it. These stories were then illustrated, printed and given to each buddy in the program.

At our Buddy Event on the 10th, 3 theatre loving professionals gave of their time to lead workshops for our buddies and teens to perform in an inclusive and accepting environment together. Through acting out these stories, each buddy found their time to shine and were supported by their teen buddies.

It was a magical day for all and we look forward to seeing what will happen in Enchantilandia through next year’s book!
